RIGHT! It’s beta, but we have a Matrix bridge up for @liberachat@twitter.com: you can connect to #foo:libera.chat where #foo is the channel. Huge thanks to the team for letting us expose the network on Matrix! We are also working through fixing the bridge bug backlog :)

@onepict Yep to overcome the conservative world-view of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_ we need "governance" and we know that grassroots activist "governance" works but dose not scale.

In the fediverse we have a good model of scaling small to big while keeping the tech human scale.

Put the two together and we have, proven path out of this mess.

andrew lee just seized over 700 channels on freenode because they mentioned libera.chat in their topic.

This includes projects like openbsd, wikimedia, FOSDEM, etc.

archive.is/uHw1g shows 720 channels that match what is being checked.

here's an example log: gist.github.com/pushcx/ab2a1d5

boost this if you care about foss in any way.

Another great one:
"Managing incremental rollout was key: we aggressively A/B tested the new code. Our internal studies showed that gaslighting users by showing them a completely new interface once in a while and then switching back to the old one the next time they loaded a page increases user engagement, so we made sure to implement such a system based on a Medium article we found that had something to do with multi-armed bandits." 3/n

This is so full of great quotes:
"We evaluated a number of promising alternatives that we selected and ranked based on the how many bullet points they had on their websites, how often they’d appear on the front page of Hacker News, and a spreadsheet of important language characteristics (performance, efficiency, community, ease-of-use) that we had people in the office fill out." 2/n

Along the same lines as RDD, here's the ultimate template whenever you need to explain your choice of something new: Why we at $FAMOUS_COMPANY switched to $HYPED_TECHNOLOGY

TIL there is sort of a manifesto for resume-driven development: rdd.io/
I'm not against trying out new things but RDD is a real problem, in particular if you have one or two devs in a team who are more interested in polishing their skillset than in anything else.

If you're going to shit on a FOSS project in public just don't. It achieves nothing of value but alienates the people putting hard work into it despite owing you nothing.
