I've generated many #hdri environments maps and soon I will release all for free, are simple and maybe useful for product visualization and check of surfaces. #b3d #Rendering #CAD
Convert 3D meshes with Quad topology & Subdivision Surfaces to #IGES for #CAD workflows using FreeShip! Now supports OBJ & VRML2 imports.

OpenSCAD 2021.01 now availabe on Haiku (64bit only for now).
Thanks to @joe for pointing this out and the pointer on building it for Haiku!
Thanks to @waddlesplash for poking me into looking to porting it to Haiku! :)
EDIT: after fixing CGAL for 32bit, OpenSCAD is now also available for that on Haiku.
Enjoy!
A bit of #FreeCADFriday action: reworking the sleeve for @MCQN_Ltd's RGB LED bollards so we can (a) switch the 3D printing orientation so the stress lines aren't along the printing layers and (b) it will be removable for when we want to mount the bollard on the back of a trike for another music video (or something)
Ok, so I've realized belatedly that #onshape #cad does in fact support functional abstractions of parts over dimensions, which is neat.
You just gotta make a part, go into the "configurations" panel, "create a configuration variable", use that variable in your part, then in another part studio you can do a Derived feature referring to the first part, and then you get to specify a value for the "configuration variable", i.e. pass argument to the function.

Context. I'm working on a mount for an H36 toolhead PCB for the Xol toolhead.
@mia - you might be interested.
Holy fuck the cad software logic is mess up. I kind of get this restricted rectangle thingy but where F is hidden the unrestrain feature. Maybe CAD people are always restrained... tried 3 different software all unusable for even creating a 3D
#Solvespace why can you just make it easy?
#freeCAD like come on, I got the rectangle where are all the features hidden?
#CAD sketchup plugin, ½way there with the integration, gotta mess with the blender stuff anyway so why not just activate edge length?
On #Linux, after upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04, #Plasticity3D for Windows works very well with the standard version of Wine, which you can install directly from the system’s package manager. so now you can use smoothly all features even on Linux. The video show well it on wine, #CAD
I miss Fusion 360. Are there any open source 3D CAD programs with decent UI?
Last time we tried FreeCAD was several years ago, but it was HORRENDOUSLY confusing. Ye gods, SO MANY TOOLBARS. Even Blender wasn't that bad.
Maybe it's better now, I don't know. Or maybe there's something else?
We know and love Blender, but I really like Fusion 360's "tweakable stack of edits to the object" model, and while Blender HAS modifiers, they're not really designed for modeling from the ground up that way.
second side also "fits"
thank god plastic can be forgiving allows itself to be shaped a lil by forcing it
the construction is not completely square, and it seems like its off by 1.2mm, which Should be fine
ill do the #CAD rundown tomorrow together with how it fits in the case
alright, main "rack rail" part has been designed, and i've cancelled the print 5 times now before it even started because i forgot "just one thing"
I'll make a full rundown of the design of this part soon, given that it works lol
Some of this infrastructure software is available in like a Million different #OSS projects that try to solve the same problem in a myriad of different ways
so imma do the thing that is only reasonable: make my own solution
but i'll keep it super simple and mostly in a spit and ducttape kinda vibe, i'll document it as i go, but software will have to wait because we're moving onto converting the ITX case into a server rack using the magic of #CAD and #3DPrinting, which will take a while
i'm gonna try and make a rack-mounting thingy out of an old ITX computer case!
i'll do this with #CAD and some #3Dprinting
i would love to invest into a mini rack, but i just realized that's cisadmin pinterest vibes, and i might as well re-use this scrap metal i have lying around
one should be enough to fit most of the stuff i want in there, but i actually have a second identical one that i can flip upside down and mount on top of this one for expansion in case i need that later
