Partition table deleted, no problems.

Creating new partitions now…

: Instead of creating a new (, ), better create a new (*) or () directly on the physical device, and write the on a separate one, e.g., / .

@amiloradovsky But I want multiple labelled things. Also re external boot: That's what I'm doing with my laptop.

@phryk
P.S. I meant *BSD's "disklabel"/"bsdlabel" (partitioning tool). IMO, you only need a DOS/Windows-style partition table if you have multiple OS'es installed on the same physical storage device.

@amiloradovsky Why are disklabels better than partition tables, tho?

@phryk
Compared to GPT (if it were ever supported):
• native to the *BSD OS'es; working
• integrated with the filesystems
• incompatible with the "standard"…
Compared to the DOS PT, there are other advantages (number of records per table, max. addressable space etc.).

The idea is to keep it simple and avoid one unnecessary booting stage. Plus it may be more secure (whole disk encryption, MBR malware etc.).
