I was trying to identify the features I find counter-intuitive, but couldn't decide what to begin with — it's basically *everything*! Take any given piece of behavior, more likely than not it *is* counter-intuitive.

But then I thought, these may be "not bugs but features", i.e. meant to be so — it's simply I am not the intended audience. It's like asking an Emacs user what's wrong with Vi(m), or vice versa…

Then the question is who are the intended audience? My guess: the developers, spending more time debugging the protocols and server issues than posting an actual statuses…

So I just don't think now it is any meaningful to point out a specific problematic bits in the UI/UX. — Better simply advise against using the tool unless the person knows what they are after.

What I wanted to say is, essentially, that nobody should ever try to use #AndStatus before they've tried all the other clients and got a very specific applications which may not be solved as well with any of the other clients.

What's _your_ example of intuitive social networking client for "power users", for Android?
...It came to me that "power users" (like "business users") don't actually need "intuitive" application. They need it to do what they want and are ready to adapt...

• For instance, the message text entering area doesn't support word completion, and AS may any time strip away e.g. the double newline paragraph separation — I'm having hard time justifying that behavior.
• There are lots of timelines with names, looking like synonyms, and they basically are. Generally, the clutter is huge — most often actions require going through the same dozen of menus as the least often ones — suboptimal.

Where are the visibility indicator and CW?
When I switch between apps the keyboard doesn't disappear (bug?).
The list may go on and on.
Plus, there are noticeable latencies here and there (e.g. going to the top…).
…I'm also curious what kind of "business users" would prefer AS to a more popular client. I'd rather expect a typical "business user" to rely on Tootdon, or Slack…

@amiloradovsky Regarding #Mastodon's "visibility".
I plan to implement this in a unified way using #ActivityVocabulary, so the feature could be reused for different social networks. Using the vocabulary, "visibility" means, which groups of users will be able to see the note/activity: Public (all, even unauthenticated), "Users of this instance" etc. or no groups at all and only concrete list of recipients (this is close to "Private" timeline).
Not sure about proper indicators...

Regarding CW (Note name in #ActivityPub terms) - I'm testing this now for #Mastodon and #Pump.io and plan to release...
The keyboard doesn't disapper, when switching or screen rotation, if Note editor is active.
I mentioned "business users" in a context of users' need in "intuitive" UI, not about #AndStatus in particular :-)

@AndStatus Removing a default mentions from the template is way easier than adding them in e.g. multi-toot/post reply. So, if that's deliberate, I don't see why.

@amiloradovsky This is about avoiding useless (and only taking Note space) "mentioning myself". This is how email clients work, for example, when you select "Reply to all"...
BTW, why do you need to mention yourself in your own post?

Say, when I started this reply, your mention was inserted automatically (of course), but if I will then reply to this very toot/post (to add something that didn't fit, or I forgot to add), your mention will not be inserted by default.
Although the whole series may be regarded as one reply, the OPs will be mentioned in just the first one. — That's, at least, not how the other clients behave. Easy to miss a follow-up.

@AndStatus This toot/post was empty by default, and, if I didn't add you explicitly, you wouldn't see it in the notifications; although it contains (let's pretend) an important information missing from the previous (my) toot/post.

Sure. That's not what I'm talking about. — I'm talking about a reply consisting of multiple notes/toots:

• not `a_note ← reply_1` followed by `a_note ← reply_2`

• but `a_note ← reply_1` followed by `reply_1 ← reply_2`

but when I select "Reply to conversation participants" in #AndStatus, I see several user handles already present in the toot.

Okay, I see it too. — That's something already, although not exactly what I thought of: I don't want to notify *all* the participants, just those my (former) reply was addressed to, preferably, using just the reply icon under the note/toot.

@amiloradovsky You have the third Reply option: "Reply to mentioned actors" to include only those who are mentioned in the note that you are replying to

Got it. Seems to be exactly that.

Apparently AS has most of the features, found in the other clients, but… buried under the pile of a context menus! — Like in order to use it efficiently (or use it at all) one has to read a few hundred pages long Operation Manual… as if it were an elaborate industrial equipment :)

I also like the colored "dependency graph" of a conversation. — Cool feature.

- While adding an account, AS calls instances a "social networks" — that's misleading. Fediverse is the network.
- After an update/fresh install, I'm greeted with the changelog. Then, if I tap the upper "back" button, the app is exiting… that's not what I meant — just close the changelog, that's it!

#AndStatus is correct: from client application's point of view each instance of #Mastodon _is_ a separate Social Network with it's own actors (users) and notes (toots). This is a sad consequence of choosing Twitter-like client-to-server API for Mastodon.
BTW all instances of #Pump.io are one Social network.

@amiloradovsky This is natural Android behaviour: I didn't change anything here. After update the "ChangeLog" screen _is_ the first activity, and in this case going "Back" means exiting the application. This is how Google recommends to work with "activities" (I.e. don't change natural order of activities...)
I understand you, but I'm not sure that "Back" to Default timeline would be more intuitive for an ordinary Android User...

@amiloradovsky "There are lots of timelines with names, looking like synonyms" I agree that names have too close meaning, especially considering that different social networks use them for different filters of "Everything".
"Interactions" timeline shows all interactions of other users with us (our actors) whereas "Notifications" timeline shows us only those interactions, which we preferred to be notified about in Settings > Notifications, plus unsent notes.

This looks like some incompatibility. I do have words suggestions on my devices...

I'm using #AnySoftKeyboard 1.9.1117 on #Android 7.1.2, if that helps in debugging the issue with word suggestion.

@amiloradovsky I have word suggestions in my two hardware devices by different vendors and different Android versions, and in Android emulator also. I use Default keyboard apps. So maybe it makes sense to file a bug to your keyboard's developers?!

@AndStatus Maybe, but #AnySoftKeyboard does show word suggestions in all the other apps and their text fields; except those where no meaningful text is expected (e.g. address bars), and… AndStatus — coincidence?
